The MagnumStar December 2011 A new lamp, smaller and slightly lighter and a lot more user friendly is being currently tested. It has 3 XM-L emitters behind reflectors at 2.75 amps to give 2650 lumens, plus 3 bare XM-Ls at 2.5 amps and 2 X XP-Gs at about 1.3 amps. Switched options are up to 2650 lumens of beam, or about 3200 lumens of floodlight, or a maximum output which combines the beams at max with the 2 bare XPGs, total output about 3400 lumens. Unlike the old model this one runs on a 12V power pack. Look out for updates. 8V Charger Systems There has been some issues with 8V power packs were the electronic protection circuits for the LiIon cells do not reset themselves after disconnecting to protect the cells after complete discharge. This prevents recharging. To address this I have developed a new charging system. As well as addressing the above issue this will dispense with the rather untidy adaptor lead. A new self contained charger has been developed which will have the capability to reset power packs where the LiIon cells have disconnected, an issue which as arisen with some but not all 8V power packs supplied. A couple of things: Upgrading My technology upgrade guarantee still applies to Trigons with the earlier heat sink system, if more powerful emitters etc come along, we can have your lamp in an upgrade for a reasonable price. Upgrading can only be done within that particular model of lamp however, I cannot upgrade a lamp of the 4V series to a Trigon, I cannot upgrade the earlier Trigon to the new thermal design.
Trigon 1750, change in power settings from earlier model. The internal layout remains unchanged however I have changed the power settings of the 2 serial XM-Ls as follows. Standard Mode is reduced from 0.2 amps down to 0.19 to return 140 lumens. The old setting was too bright in calcited passages and the new level saves 0.45 watts for a cost of 25 lumens. Yes the new level only pulls about 1.2 watts from the battery. High Mode is increased to 750mA to return 650 lumens Turbo Mode is increased to 2.75 amps to return about 1750 lumens. This has been done to reflect the increased thermal efficiency of the new design. Its doubtful whether the increase will be noticeable however. I am still using T6 XM-Ls, if and when U BIN fall in price I shall of course change to these, so even more output. New EcoStar from 1st Jan 2012 The new model uses the same XT60 connectors as the Trigon, but the other way round so that an 8V power pack cannot be connected. The electronics also dispense with diodes and use P Channel MOSFETS instead so that there is no voltage drop across the circuit. This means that the new lamp is now even more reliable and will burn brighter longer. It fact it wont really go out but will continue to burn for days but at a diminishing brightness.

r the power packs.
